How do I get more traffic to my website?

I've used the Google Adwords keyword tool to optimize the best keywords for my pages. I have chosen words that have several thousand searches a month and little to no competition but I am still not getting visitors. Today is the worst day yet with absolutely no visitors at all. I was making about 7 dollars a day when I paid Adwords to advertise my site, but was putting out $20 a day so naturally I discontinued my ad. I've been on the internet for a little over two months and have about 56 pages of info on my site. The only way I can be found on the search engines is by typing in my domain name. What else can I do? Will it just take more time? If you have a successful website could you offer some tips? Thanks
